
John Preston
Advisor
John Preston is an Advisor to Andromeda Ventures and a leading expert in the commercialization of science and technology. Over a 30-year career at MIT, he founded and directed many of the institute’s core entrepreneurial and technology-transfer initiatives, helping drive the creation of more than 300 companies.
During his tenure at MIT, John served as Director of Technology Development, Director of Technology Licensing, and Senior Lecturer, teaching entrepreneurship to graduate students at MIT and Harvard. He also led complex, nationally significant negotiations, including representing MIT on the HDTV Grand Alliance and contributing to the establishment of the U.S. high-definition television standard.
After leaving MIT, John became Managing Partner of TEM Capital, where he has built and invested in companies focused on transformative innovation in energy and materials science. He founded multiple portfolio companies and served as CEO of Eco Material Technologies, helping scale a leading producer of low-carbon cementitious materials that replace traditional Portland cement.
John has testified before Congress on multiple occasions as an expert in technology and innovation and has chaired major international and presidential technology initiatives. His honors include the Thomas Jefferson Award for technology transfer, the Hammer Award for Reinventing Government, and appointment as a Knight of the Order of National Merit of France. He is an Honorary Alum of MIT and holds a B.S. in Physics from the University of Wisconsin and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
